Mysterious Broom Stands Up

There is just so much to say about this news clip, and yet there really isn't anything to say at all.

Free Degrassi Junior High 101

The angst, the agony, the acne, and the acting: this is not the time to discuss the merits and memories of eighties classic, Degrassi Junior High. Just go right now to iTunes and get the very first episode, "Kiss Me Steph", absolutely free while you still can.

It's available on the Canadian iTunes Music store here, but I can't confirm whether or not it's available to international students.

Hot Pepper

Whatever kind of day you are having, it is about to change.

Needless to say, I have watched this a zillion times, can't get the song out of my head, have no idea what I am singing, and am loving every minute of it.

For the diehards, like me, who can't get enough of this little diddy, there are some alternate versions of varying length and content here, as well as a pretty swell extended remix here. Also, if you're wanting to delve deeper into the mysterious origins of this earworm, it's an ad for a local Japanese newsmagazine called Hot Pepper, and it features a J-Pop artist named Kaela Kimura, who really has some sweet dance moves.

SBTB FTW!

Here I was, going to post some things about the big Apple WWDC keynote yesterday, when news from Jimmy Fallon's Saved by the Bell reunion blew the importance of new iPhones right out of the water.

There is so much SBTB goodness in this interview that I can't even summarize it in a witty way. Let's just say that Jimmy Fallon has secured both the kingpin, and someone thought to be the hardest to convince, for the "class reunion", and he does it in true Bayside style. As a SBTB fan, you could not ask for more.

But if you're still hoping for some WWDC coverage, Jimmy's got your back for that too.

Social Media Sabbatical

After one week of Blogger FTP issues, one week of putting on the 2009 GDMA Degree Show at work, and another week of directing my church's family camp, I'm back to blogging. At the same time, however, I am living in constant fear of having my favourite blabbermouth, the Internet, spoil the season finales to my favourite shows.

Being so busy, the TiVo has been piling up with good television that I haven't seen. The main show I am concerned about is Lost, which has been so amazingly awesome this season I expect no less than earth-shattering revelations from the final episode. To a lesser extent, the results of Survivor, the always fun wrap-ups from 30 Rock and The Office, and the last show ever of the Prison Break series, are also something I'm looking forward to.

Thus, I have made the difficult decision to avoid all social media, including Facebook, Twitter and blogging, until my expectations have been met, my story arcs have been resolved, and my TiVo hard drive has been wiped clean.

So chatter away, Internet, but I'll be virtually plugging my ears and typing "la la la la la la" on an imaginary keyboard until then.

Saved By The Bell Reunion

This may very well be the most important thing you do today.

Late Night With Jimmy Fallon has been a great show. I've always liked Jimmy, I was pumped for the first episode, and while his monologue might be rocky and he may have had some nerves at the beginning, he's really starting to find his footing. His integration of technology and nerdiness has been better than I expected, the Roots are such a cool addition to the show, and I actually really enjoy his interviews, which can be the uninteresting part on other late night talk shows.

However, he has just launched an initiative that has increased my respect for him tenfold, and may very well save America. Jimmy Fallon wants to get the Saved by The Bell cast back together for their 20 year reunion. If there is one link you click on today, one field you type your name into this week, and one video you spend 3 minutes of your life watching, I urge you to do it here.

For all you Canadians, just select the nearest state and city to sign the official petition. Conveniently, I thought it was befitting to select Bellingham.

Previously On Lost

Lost is back and, I would say, better than ever. Whether you're a Lostie or one of the Others, you'll enjoy this short about one man's quest to watch the past 4 seasons, back-to-back, in 2.78 days.

Thanks Spence for the link.

TiVo Economics

If you love your TiVo like I do, but want the cold hard facts to prove why, let this smart guy explain it for you.

"Average hourly earnings are around $18, suggesting that TiVo saves time that could otherwise have been sold for around $108 per week. We should also add in the benefit of higher quality television — around $11 per week — and subtract the cost of the annoying service charge, which is around $3 per week, yielding net benefits of $116 per week, or $6,000 per year. The net present value of this flow is around $120,000 per person, or perhaps around a quarter of a million dollars per household. Wow."

Every Simpsons Couch Gag Ever

They could make an entire episode out of this: every couch gag from every episode of The Simpsons, compiled into one super-fast montage. If you're a super-nerd, you can also watch the 20 minute regular-speed version here.

Some of my faves from the regular speed one: stomping the FOX logo at 3:07, not even making it inside at 5:12, the amazing Rocky & Bullwinkle parody at 6:30, meeting the original badly drawn Simpsons at 7:26, a Peanuts homage at 8:46, guest appearance by Fry from Futurama at 8:48, the behind-the-scenes animation at 9:45, Matt Groening making cameos at 7:34 and 9:49, the Batpoles at 10:56 followed by hilarious Japanese superheroes, the mega-universal zoom at 11:27, claymation Gumby at 13:31, attack of the couches sequence at 13:52, the TiVo one at 13:46, a real live family at 15:26, the evolution of Homer at 16:52, built out of Lego at 18:09, Magritte at 19:05, and the best one to finish with at 12:29.

Human Tetris Returns...To TV!

Everybody's favourite large-pieces-of-foam-rushing-at-people-who-have-to-contort-their-bodies-to-fit-in-the-pre-designed-holes game show, Hole in the Wall, is coming to American television thanks to that upstanding network, Fox.

The article compares the re-playability factor to Deal or No Deal, but what Hole in the Wall has going for it is that it is fun to both play and watch. Also, as far as we know now, no Howie Mandel.

Strike Gold

Now that the writers' strike is over, the biggest question is obviously if Lost will film more episodes, which it seems they might! TV Guide has a continually updated list of when all your favourite shows will return.

Lost: That Loving Feeling

Tonight, there's a "special enhanced episode" of the big season finale of Lost from last year, which sound like a Pop-up Video type of thing. Then tomorrow it's the recap episode followed by the "most anticipated premiere of the season", which is not that hard when you're up against shows like The Moment of Truth.

If you haven't watched any of Lost yet, I strongly recommend you leave your cave and go back and watch all the DVDs, but otherwise ABC has an amazing recap that's everything you need to know in 8 minutes and 15 seconds.

Lastly, get your predictions in with The Bureau of Communication's Official-Looking (But Totally Unofficial) Lost Prediction Form.

Kid Nation

CBS announced their new schedule and they've got this new crazy-sounding show called Kid Nation. Listen to this:

CBS has announced that Kid Nation, a new Lord of the Flies-like reality series in which 40 children will have 40 days to establish a fully-functioning community in an uninhabited ghost town, will be part of the network's Fall 2007 primetime schedule and air Wednesdays at 8PM

I, for one, look forward to watching them learn to cook and pass laws on bedtimes, and one can only hope that it ends up more like the forgotten nineties favourite Camp Nowhere and less like Lord of the Flies.

Spoiler Alert! I hate to ruin upcoming episodes of the Office for anyone, so don't watch this if you enjoy your episodes in all their half-hour glory, but this is hilarious. Come back next week to watch it and reminisce!

Jim & Pam

A very tastefully done half-promo, half-sappy music montage of Jim & Pam from The Office which makes me even more excited for Thursday's new episode, and just a little bit teary.
